Anna Iskra is a Post-doctoral Fellow at the Hong Kong Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Hong Kong. She is affiliated with the Asian Religious Connections research cluster and involved in the “The Infrastructures of Faith: Religious Mobility on the Belt and Road” research project.
Iskra earned a double BA and MA degree in Sinology and in Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology at the College of Inter-Area Individual Studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences (MISH), University of Warsaw, Poland and a PhD degree in Anthropology at the HKIHSS, The University of Hong Kong. In 2019, she was a Visiting Fellow at the Department of Anthropology, Harvard University. Iskra’s academic interests include sociocultural and medical anthropology, religious and spiritual movements, gender studies, as well as the intersections between the state, psy-sciences, and self-formation processes in contemporary China. Her current research project focuses on holistic spirituality and self-help industries in mainland China and their transnational ties to Indian New Religious Movements.
